Saving the internet by rebuilding the foundations of social media: Project Liberty on the horizon

“Project Liberty” is the chosen name for rebranded social media. Rebuilding from the core version of social media functionalities that we might see in the upcoming days. Billionaire real estate mogul Frank McCourt is dropping a hefty sum in the venture to create a true experience of social media. He is also the former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The new social media called Project Liberty will be based on publicly accessible databases. Which will let the users move their records of relationships and social connections. The current generation of social media giants have these features locked on user-profiles and used as most basic information. Our intimate details are now attached with the social media apps and the new one is about to change that. McCourt said he never thought the security of our underlying systems would be questioned. As we’ve expected, the project may become an imminent threat to social media giants nonetheless. Being a top influencer in his field, McCourt is worried about the global population and has a similar experience like the rest of us. When a few have authority over a large number of people for too long, it is not a good sign. Also, there is less room for capitalism gains.

Decentralised Social Networking Protocol (DSNP) is the core of Project Liberty. Braxton Woodham, former technology officer of Fandango is in charge of DSNP.

Another fundamental is the blockchain network dependency. Similar to the crypto network, it differentiates where data is stored. Blockchain's special construction gives it a specific type of database. Many types of data can be stored and decentralised blockchains are irreversible. This state is used in crypto, thus transitions are irreversible and secure. All and all, if they are used in the core of Project Library, we may see a new social media adventure with vintage adequacy. And by that, we meant services that people would trust to use even if it falls under the pressure of time.

At Georgetown University, Washington, a research team is formed and $75 million is pledged to the project. From the $100 million, rest of the budget will be used to build a core of the DSNP network. It is the third effort by McCourt to fix social media and people to interact online. He tried at least three times for a transformation by investing in tech companies. The internet venture and social media collaboration should be handled by academic thinkers alongside go through true and honest practice.

Project Liberty will be needing some time for getting used to it. Also, the consumer base needs to know about it properly. It’s not an easy task to transfer all the people to new social media. But the authority has plans to change it too. To attract enough people, the project will take drastic measures. Over the DSNP infrastructure, there will be consumer product distribution. Once the movement has enough people, the authority will help migrate them to the open and inclusive data economy. The platform will have a vast impact and create great economic value.

Current media and internet usage became mainstream and being controlled by a small group. It gives them power over the mass. Even according to reports of court ruling for tech giants to stop one-sided monopoly, will help push the cause further.

Many controversies passed on Facebook, Twitter for their behaviour toward many outlooks. But eventually, facts remain unchanged as they are mostly converted into a business platform. Advertisement, promotion, and a great chunk of people scrolling through their devices with widely available public and private information. Project Liberty seems like a decent new way to convert the outlook. Users have less to lose and a lot to gain in respect of privacy and information.
